How is my hat fitted?

Our hats are thoughtfully designed for both elegance and comfort. Each piece is typically secured with discreet elastic, carefully colour-matched to your hair, ensuring a seamless and barely-there feel. This makes every style not only beautifully balanced, but exceptionally easy to wear.

We often hear from clients who have worn their hats well into the evening—dancing the night away without a second thought.

As a general guide, all hats should be worn on the right-hand side (with the exception of trilby styles, headbands and bandeau styles. We will advise when you choose your style). Please refer to our care card for detailed instructions on how to position your hat perfectly.

How do I measure for a hat myself? 

If you’re unable to visit the showroom and require a hat with a more tailored fit—such as a trilby or a style with a crown—you can easily measure your head at home.

Using a tape measure, start at the centre of your forehead and measure around the circumference of your head, ensuring the tape sits at the widest point and comfortably over the tops of your ears. This will give you an accurate measurement for a secure and comfortable fit.

Shipping and delivery

We are proud to offer worldwide delivery, with all international shipping quoted on an individual basis to ensure the most suitable and secure service for your order.

As each piece is handmade to order in the UK, please allow approximately 2–4 weeks for international deliveries. If you require your hat sooner, we will always do our very best to accommodate—please contact us to discuss your timeline.

The most appropriate courier will be carefully selected and confirmed with you prior to dispatch.

For UK deliveries, shipping costs vary depending on the size of the piece and are calculated at checkout. We typically charge between £15 and £30 for an overnight delivery service. All hats are beautifully presented in their own hat box and securely packaged within a larger outer box to ensure safe transit.

How do I track my order?

All LaylaLeigh hats are sent via next day signed-for delivery with Royal Mail, providing a unique tracking number so you can follow your order every step of the way, unless otherwise arranged.

For off the shelf pieces we allow up to 5 working days for shipping at checkout. This ensures we have time to complete any final refinements, such as adjustments to elastic colour or finishing trims, so your piece arrives perfectly presented. Bespoke options can take longer but we will advise you along the way.

If you have any specific delivery requirements or time-sensitive requests, please do not hesitate to contact us—we are always happy to assist.

Appointments

Your initial consultation is a relaxed and personal experience, typically lasting around one hour. We recommend bringing your outfit with you, allowing us to carefully consider styling, proportion, and colour to create a perfectly coordinated look.

Follow-up appointments are usually shorter, at approximately 25 minutes, and are designed to refine and finalise your piece.

If you’re unable to visit in person, telephone consultations work exceptionally well. Styles and colours can be discussed in detail, and for precise colour matching, many clients choose to send their outfit via a signed and tracked service such as Royal Mail. This ensures an exact match, with your outfit carefully returned alongside your finished hat.

Alternatively, if your outfit is current season stock, Leigh is happy to arrange colour matching in-store where possible. A small charge may apply for this service. 

Royal Ascot

Steeped in heritage and synonymous with elegance, Royal Ascot remains the pinnacle of the British social season—a moment where millinery and fashion take centre stage on a truly global platform.

Within the Royal Enclosure, tradition is upheld through a meticulously observed dress code. Hats must feature a base of no less than 10cm, while ensembles are expected to reflect the occasion’s timeless sophistication. Click here for full details.

bespoke order terms

Once your design has been agreed, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your order. This deposit confirms your studio time and covers the creation of your bespoke piece. The remaining balance will be due prior to collection or delivery.

Your design is created based on your requirements at the time of consultation. Should you wish to make any additions, changes, or embellishments after this stage, this may incur an additional cost. You will always be informed of any price adjustments before proceeding.

Any specific materials or custom requests must be discussed during the initial consultation to ensure availability and accurate pricing.

As all pieces are made to order, we are unable to accept returns or offer refunds once your order has been confirmed.

All hats are handmade in the UK by our small team of skilled milliners. Each piece is individually crafted, meaning no two hats are ever identical we like to call our pieces “sisters, not twins.” While we always aim to recreate designs as closely as possible, slight variations are part of the beauty and uniqueness of handmade craftsmanship.

Our bespoke designs are made to order, and many styles may continue to be offered in future collections. We retain full design rights to all pieces.

We are located at the bottom of South Street in Chichester.

Our opening hours are Monday to Friday, 10:30am – 3:30pm. On Saturdays, we operate by appointment only, however if we’re in the studio, we’ll always be delighted to welcome you in.

During busy periods, we highly recommend booking an appointment in advance, even on weekdays. This ensures we can give you the time and attention you deserve—especially if you are bringing your outfit along for styling, as fittings can take a little longer.

That said, we are always welcoming and will do our very best to accommodate you whenever possible.
