Standing Together: An Evening in Support of My Sisters’ House

Last week I had the honour of attending - and speaking at - Breaking the Silence: Stories of Strength, an incredibly moving evening hosted by My Sisters’ House at Arundel Town Hall.

As a Patron of My Sisters’ House, this is a charity very close to my heart. Their work supporting women affected by abuse across West Sussex is vital, compassionate and life-changing - and last night was a powerful reminder of why that work matters so deeply.

The evening brought together people from across our local community to listen, reflect and connect. The stories shared were brave, honest and deeply human. Standing up to say a few words in support of My Sisters’ House was both humbling and grounding - a moment that reinforced just how important it is that these conversations continue, and that survivors are seen, heard and supported.

Arundel Town Hall provided a beautiful and fitting setting for the evening - calm, welcoming and full of warmth. We were also incredibly well looked after, thanks to the generosity and care of several wonderful local businesses that contributed to the night.

My heartfelt thanks go to Jacqueline Wise, whose food was quite simply delicious, to Greyfriars Vineyard for the wine, and to Goodwood Food for their generous support. Thank you also to Winter’s Moon UK and The Cheeseman for their thoughtful contributions, which added such a special touch to the evening.

On a personal note, I’m also hugely grateful to my dear friend Ceri, who was by my side throughout the night - having familiar support in a room filled with emotion means more than words can say.

I left the evening feeling inspired, reflective and more committed than ever to supporting the work of My Sisters’ House. Events like Breaking the Silence remind us that community matters, listening matters, and showing up matters.

If you’d like to learn more about the work My Sisters’ House does, or how you can support them, I wholeheartedly encourage you to visit their website and get involved where you can. Together, we can help ensure that no woman feels alone.
